- RBI cut the interest rate on Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) by 50 points (From 9.50% to 9%). The MRF is 9% now. (MRF is the rate at which banks borrow funds over night from RBI against approved government securities).
- The 2013 Nobel Prize for Medicine: Three Scientists share the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine 2013 for working out how biological cells organize and transport the many molecules they need to function. Names of those 3 are James E. Rothman, Randy W. Schekman and Thomas C. Sudhof.
- Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the religious scholar and spiritual leader of Israel’s Sephardic Jews Died. He was 93.
- SBI New Chairperson: “Arundhati Bhattacharya “is the new chairperson of the State Bank of India (SBI) on October 1st 2013. She is the first woman to be appointed to the top job at the country’s largest lender. She succeeds Pratip Chaudhuri who retired on September 30th 2013.
- Deborah illuminated India’s Campaign on the final day of the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC) Track Asia Cup in Thailand as she won a gold medal in women’s junior individual sprint.
